About PropanePAC

What is PropanePAC?

PropanePAC is the separate segregated fund of the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA), serving as the political arm of the association’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the entire propane industry.  It is a multi-candidate, non-partisan political action committee (PAC) registered with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).  Since corporations cannot use general treasury funds for political contributions, PropanePAC pools together voluntary, personal contributions to support federal candidates to Congress who support the propane industry.

Who can contribute to PropanePAC?

PropanePAC is solely funded by personal contributions from a limited group of executive and administrative individuals of NPGA member companies and NPGA employees.  PropanePAC may only receive personal contributions from U.S. citizens and Green Card holders.  Additionally, personal contributions may only derive from NPGA staff and NPGA member company employees who have been “prior approved," or designated in writing as part of the restricted class within their company, to participate in PAC events for the current calendar year.

Who oversees PropanePAC?

PropanePAC is governed by a Steering Committee.  This committee is comprised of a chairman appointed by the NPGA Chairman of the Board, NPGA District Directors, the NPGA Individual Director, and various other NPGA Board Directors and contributors.  The committee establishes criteria and guidelines for PropanePAC activity.  The committee is supported by a NPGA staff member and the NPGA’s Senior Vice President, who serves as PropanePAC’s treasurer.

Who does PropanePAC support?

During the 2012 election cycle, PropanePAC contributed more than $188,000 to a bipartisan group of candidates for the U.S. House and Senate, with an 82% winning percentage to show for it.  PropanePAC contributes to candidates, regardless of political party, who support the professional interests of the propane gas industry and the members of the National Propane Gas Association.
